Introduction

Smart NPPE Exam Preparation

This Study Guide, along with the Practice Exams, is crafted to align with the official NPPE syllabus, minimizing unnecessary reading and redundant information found in textbooks.

This targeted approach prevents wasted study time and ensures efficient preparation.

This guide provides you with a comprehensive and strategic approach to preparing for the exam (read, fast and painless).

Important: You can get through this material in 5–8 hours, and most people do on a weekend.

Do not read or make study notes on the textbooks. Everything you need to pass the exam is here in the course portal (Study Guide + Practice Exams + Strategy Modules).

This Study Guide reduces the reading from 875+ pages to approximately 60 pages. That reading will go quickly, so the real power is in practising exam questions.

Once you’re through this course, you’ll be familiar with the unique style of questions that are asked in the exam.

The National Professional Practice Exam (NPPE)

The NPPE is a standardized, closed-book exam with 110 multiple-choice questions. You'll have 2.5 hours to complete it.

The NPPE is administered by Alberta's association (APEGA) and serves as the standard exam for the other Canadian engineering and geoscience associations, including:

  • EGM: Manitoba
  • EGBC: British Columbia
  • APEGA: Alberta
  • PEO: Professional Engineers Ontario
  • PGO: Professional Geoscientist Ontario
  • Engineers Nova Scotia
  • APEGS: Saskatchewan
  • APEGNB: New Brunswick
  • PEGNL: Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Engineers PEI: Prince Edward Island
  • NAPEG: Northwest Territories and Nunavut
  • Engineers Yukon

The only exception is Quebec.

Since the NPPE caters to multiple associations, the emphasis is on general principles:

  • DO NOT memorize your association’s Act, Bylaws, or Regulations.
  • DO NOT memorize your association’s Code of Ethics. The common themes of each association’s Code of Ethics are summarized within.
  • DO NOT spend time reviewing your province’s OH&S act. Each province and territory has its act, and the questions relating to this subject will be generic.
  • DO NOT spend time reviewing province-specific material

With these facts, you can approach the exam strategically and utilize your time effectively.

It's essential to know that the NPPE pass rates are high. Instead of merely aiming to pass, focus on preparing efficiently to ensure a confident and well-rounded performance.

Important: The NPPE Exam pass rates are high, so it's not about passing, but it's about preparing efficiently.
